Have been a big 1911 fan for years. Always been a poor shooter of other peoples Glocks. When I lived in the People’s Socialist Republic of Kalifornia, I purchased a used Glock 23 so that I could ‘learn’ to shoot a Glock well. I am still learning.
Retirement moved me out of Kalifornia to Pennsylvania. I purchased a Glock 26 for possible CCW use. Wanted to get the G27 BUT found the rental I used too difficult to control. My 1911 4.25″ commander was found to be too heavy for EDC. I could not conceal the G26 very well plus was not very good with it. I ended up with a P938 that was both comfortable and able to shoot almost as well as a full size 1911.
Now settled down in my LAST home in North Carolina, I finally built the Compact Polymer80 (homemade Glock 19). It has been a steep learning experience to get it to run reliably. I am able to control it and shoot it well. Enter the SS80 getting its ATF approval letter. I like the idea of getting to learn a single stack Glock that should end up being good for EDC so I ordered an SS80 around 09 September 2018. Liked shooting the P80 so much (about 300 NATO rounds down range with no malfunctions after several hundred rounds troubleshooting) that I purchased a Glock 43. Been shooting it and have to say I like it. A little more practice and it could end up becoming my EDC.
Now I find myself waiting for my turn on the SS80 waitlist for my unit to ship. Would be nice if the GlockStore.com posted some kind of update on how their shipping status is going. Having made my living in the Aerospace Industry, I am familiar with delays but some sort of “best case timeline” would be useful. Knowing that there are X number of orders, Y number of units coming in each week, and that Z number of units ship out each week would help give some idea of when one could expect their SS80. Yes one glitch in production, one glitch in transportation to GlockStore.com, one glitch in storage, one glitch in packing, or one glitch in delivery to customer can add days, weeks, or months till the customer gets their SS80. It would also add some transparency into what the delays and possible solution could be found from input received from the public.
